What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatment?
Platelet Rich Plasma has been used in Europe with great success in clinical practice since the late 1980’s. Initially used to enhance wound healing in many specialties, it’s emergence into the aesthetic/cosmetic arena for rejuvenation of skin started in 2004. The Skin rejuvenation technique has been used since 2004 in Europe, Asia, and South America. Patients have seen all around improvement in skin texture, pigmentation disorders, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, acne, stretch marks, and hair loss to name a few. Studies show that PRP, when done properly, has the ability to increase collagen deposition and remodeling which can persist over a 12 month period. The term autologous means that the source of origin is the patient’s own body and because of this is desirable to many patients who may desire a natural type treatment.
What is Carboxy Therapy?
Carboxytherapy refers to the cutaneous and subcutaneous administration of carbon dioxide gas [CO2] for therapeutic purposes. Carboxytherapy originated at the Royal Spas of France in 1932. Patients with diabetic ulcers and other medical conditions were sent to bathe in the rich CO2 French waters which proved to have healing properties. Carbon dioxide therapy was further developed in Italy by Dr. Parmigiani. Today in South America and Europe, carbon dioxide therapy has been applied to the treatment of stretch marks, cellulite, hypertrophic scars, with impressive results. Studies have demonstrated that Carboxytherapy is essential for anti-aging, it improves skin elasticity, improves circulation, encourages collagen repair, improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and destroys localized fatty deposits. Carbon dioxide is a natural constituent of our very being.
This comprehensive one-day hands-on training workshop explores the multiple cosmetic applications of Platelet Rich Plasma and Carboxy Therapy. The morning didactic presentation will include: PRP theory and mechanism of action, Optimal level of platelets needed for angiogenesis (studies noted), is more better and does equipment matter, PRP as a stand-alone treatment and how it differs from the Vampire Lift®, Fat Grafting and PRP, PRP used in combination with Ablative Fractional Laser, RF and high intensity Ultrasound (deep dermal heating) devices. Discussion of complementary modalities used with PRP to enhance treatments, such as micro-trauma techniques, micro-needling, photo-stimulation, oral stem cell attractants, and techniques from Asia which incorporate the use of PPP (Platelet Poor Plasma). Primary focus regarding treatment protocols will be on the most popular areas requested for treatment (facial and neck aging), however, treatment protocols for scars, acne, stretch marks, hand rejuvenation, hair loss, and cellulite will be presented.
